How results work
Automatic and manual results, answer rules, outcomes and the results page.
Open the Results step in the quiz editor. At the top, choose how results are picked:
- Automatic results: every product gets a score from the shopper's answers and the best matches are shown.
- Automatic + manual results: you also set up your own results, like "shoppers who answer Oily and Acne get these 3 products". Your results always come first; everyone else gets the default result.
Your rules and results are kept if you switch.
The Results step has three tabs: Rules, Editor and Test.
Rules: answer rules
The Rules tab lists every rule in your quiz. Click Add rules, pick an answer and add rules like:
- Recommend products with a tag, type, vendor or collection, from A little to Very strongly.
- Only show products with something. Everything else is left out.
- Never show products with something.
Filter the table by type, search it, and edit or delete rules from it.
Budgets: on a Range slider or Number question, tick Use as a budget to only show products at or below the chosen price.
Editor: your results
The Default result is what shoppers get when none of your results match (or always, with Automatic results). Choose what it shows:
- Recommended products: chosen by your answer rules. Set how many (up to 12), what shows first on a tie, and fallback products here.
- Specific products: products you pick, in your order.
- Best matches from a collection: the collection's products, ranked by your answer rules.
- Text only: a heading and text, no products.
- Send to a page: skips the results page and opens any link. The quiz still counts as completed.
With Automatic + manual results, click Add result. Each result has:
- Path: for each question, the answers that lead here. Questions left on Any answer don't matter. On multiple-choice questions, choose whether shoppers must pick any of the answers (OR) or all of them (AND). Number questions take a lowest and highest number.
- Outcome: any of the options above.
- Results page: its own heading and text, and whether to hide Add all to cart. Click Give this result its own page for a whole page of its own (a copy of the shared page to change freely): different sections, products, look and text for these shoppers only. Use the shared page instead goes back.
Results are checked from the top of the list and the first match wins, so put the most specific ones first. Use the arrows to reorder, or Duplicate to start from a similar result.
Editor: the results page
Below your results is the results page: the sections shoppers see, like products, banners and FAQs. Every result shows the shared page, unless you give it its own. See Designing the results page and Product cards.
Test
Pick answers on the left of the Test tab and click Show results. You see which result the answers lead to and the exact products. Tests don't count toward your plan.
Happy with automatic products for some answers? Click Lock this result to save them as a manual result, so those shoppers always get the same products.
Never an empty page
If no product matches every rule, the quiz relaxes the rules step by step and says "These are our closest matches". If products you picked are all sold out, the shopper gets automatic recommendations instead. Out-of-stock products are hidden unless you turn that off.
